William Strain William Lightboady Memorial Flute Band

William Strain William Lightbody Memorial Flute Band was formed in Newtownards on 1st September 1998 and had their first parade the following year. At a meeting that night the band was constituted and membership consisted of a cross section of local people, some new to the band scene, others from a long background with bands and even some members being encouraged out of retirement. It was decided the band would take its name in memory of two former volunteers who sadly had passed away. (See band info). As with all new bands the first year was very important with fund raising to supply instruments and uniforms keeping all members very busy, it also proved to be a very successful year resulting in the band participating in many parades.
